As the park contains a herd of Fallow Deer that has been in residence since the 1660s and many wildlife habitats and conservation areas, you are sure to come across any number of wild creatures as you explore.
Also within the park’s boundaries are the Victorian Peoples Flower Gardens, 22 acres of promenade grounds displaying Victorian flower beds, and containing ornamental lakes, a picnic area and children’s playground.
Áras an Uachtaráin, the Presidential residence dating back to 1750 sits in the centre of the park near the US Ambassador’s residence and many other national historic buildings and monuments. Tours of the Presidential residence can be arranged in the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre.
The Phoenix Park Visitor Centre offers an exhibit detailing the history and wildlife of the park, a historical representation of the park from 3500BC through to the present day, as well as art, media and craft exhibitions. The centre itself is joined to Ashtown Castle, a fully restored 17th century tower open for tours and exploration.
If you need time to relax from strolling through the grounds, the Phoenix Café is available for you to sit and have a coffee, and the Victorian Tea Kiosk serves teas and lunches by the Band Hollow and Dublin Zoo.
